The Albums feature in Google Photos is easy to set up and shouldn't take any longer than a few minutes to complete. This free cloud storage service is perfect for media files, such as photos, images, video clips and audio files, and is available to Google subscribers. The Google Photos service has a feature that automatically sorts the image files uploaded by subscribers, but the Albums feature expands on this and allows them to organize their photos according to much more specific preferences.
Albums also makes it easier and more efficient for Google Photos users to share sets of photos with family and friends. Let's take a look at how it works.
Choose a Google Photos Plan Based on File Quality
Google Photos service became available to everyone with a Google account in 2015. This free cloud storage service offers free unlimited storage where subscribers can save an unlimited number of images with a high-quality image maximum of 16 megapixels. Video clips that subscribers are allowed to upload have a resolution cap of 1080p.

Because some smartphone models give users the option of taking RAW images, the file size and resolution of many smartphone photos are larger than 16MP. Fortunately, subscribers can also choose another Google Photos option that gives them 15 gigabytes of free storage space where they can save these original, unaltered images. Google Photos subscribers who take these types of photos can choose to pay a small fee for access to an extra 100GB of space if they need it.
Set Up Google Photos
To use Google Photos cloud storage service, you have to download and install the app on your Android or iOS device. Additionally, Windows and Mac computer users can access the web-based version of Google Photos. When running the app for the first time, be sure to set the image quality for your uploads by choosing either High Quality or Original. Note that a 16MP resolution for photos is usually perfectly suitable for most purposes unless your work or hobby requires higher resolution images.

After signing into your Google account, run the Google Photos app. Tap on "Menu" at the top and then select "Back up & sync." If you chose to save images in their original resolution, you may run out of storage space if you chose the 15GB storage option, or some photos may fail to upload if you chose the unlimited storage option with maximum quality limits. Check to make sure all your photos were properly backed up after the process completes.
Set Up Your Google Photo Albums
After backing up and syncing the images on your mobile device or uploading your photos from your PC to Google Photos, it's easy to take the next step and create photo albums. To set up an album when using a mobile device, sign in to your Google Account and run Google Photos. Tap on the "Albums" icon on the bottom of the screen. Enter a name for your new album and then tap "Add Photos." Select the pictures you want to add to the album. You can then choose to share the album or simply exit the app after you're done adding photos.

If you're using a PC or Mac, go to the Google Photos website to set up an album for your photos. Sign in to your Google Account and then navigate to Google Photos in your Google Drive. Click on all the photos that you want to organize into a single album, and then click on the "Albums" icon on the left-hand side and select Create New Album. Name your new album and then add photos to the album by dragging them into the box. You can also upload photos straight from your PC or Mac into the new album.
Take Advantage of Google Photo Smart Features
Organizing your albums can get a bit tedious if you have just one big file of photos. Thankfully, Google Photos has very helpful functionalities that make organizing everything much easier. For instance, if you create a new album, selecting just a few pictures of an individual, such as your child, and then tapping on "Confirm" will automatically fill the album for you with all the other photos of your child that you have already uploaded.

Sort Photos into Categories
Google Photos can also help you sort photos according to different categories, such as the date the photos were taken, the people in them or the places in them. Assigning a name to an individual who appears in photos or a phrase to describe a place or event helps the technology organize similar photos automatically under the same name or phrase. This makes it easier for you to locate photos by simply searching your albums using the name or phrase as a search keyword.

Other Google Photos features are helpful as well. It's a good idea to take some time to fully explore the different features to familiarize yourself with the app's functionalities so you can make the most of this free Google service.
