A lot of you have asked me how I got my curls back to look like the present compared to a few years ago when they were so damaged, dry, rough and unreal to be more specific ๐Ÿ™ƒ Well, it definitely takes some effort to get your natural hair back especially when you have tortured it in the best possible way you can;)

When you relax/ straighten your hair, you actually force your hair to loose it's ability to curl up naturally and there by changing its texture and pattern. So, when you ultimately stop straightening your hair, your hair starts looking all weird and unreal with the crown partially curled where as the length and tips in kind of straightened way. This could be frustrating as I know๐Ÿ˜ž since you can neither go back to straightening them again nor have your natural hair back any sooner. So how do you tackle this problem and what tips you can follow to make you hair look all natural. Read on to know~

❤ Patience –  Key to success! This is not merely a word but a truth. Understand this fact that you cannot repair the damage overnight. Years of sin cannot be rebounded in a day or a month. It takes time and effort to regrow your natural hair. So be patient.

❤ Get a big chop – Now this could be a tough decision to make especially if your hair is long. But, remember that you will need to let go of all the length which has been chemically straightened in order to have healthy hair growth. So, you will need to cut your hair at the exact place where you see the difference in pattern (actual hair vs damaged hair). So, if you have the courage go for it. But if you are not ready to get the big chop yet and are okay with the weird looking texture of your hair, take the next step๐Ÿ‘‡( which is what I did too ๐Ÿ˜€)

❤ Get a trim – You can get rid of some damaged part of your hair if you are not ready to cut it all off. But make sure to trim the damage regularly as you see natural growth (may be once in three months)

❤ Avoid heat styling –  Now, this is very important after all the heat and chemical treatment your hair has undergone in the past, at least for a pretty long period of time.

❤ Use natural ingredients – There is no better product than the mother nature. Try to use natural ingredients in your initial stages and minimise the usage of expensive market based products. You could try the following for each of your treatment / styling~

  • Apple cider vinegar –  To clarify
  • Coconut oil/avocado oil / argan oil, honey, coconut milk, shea butter, aloe vera juice – Deep treatment mask
  • Rice water, boiled tapioca water – Protein balance
  • Homemade Flaxseed gel – You could use this amazing gel to style your hair post hair wash. Clickhere for the recipe.

❤Deep condition – Moisture is what your hair needs at this point due to all the dryness and damage. Make sure to deep condition your hair at least once a week if not more. Use natural ingredients like I have mentioned above such as honey, coconut milk, avocado, oils, shea butter etc on your deep conditioner to get extra that moisture. Check out my homemade DIY deep treatment mask here .

❤ Avoid shampoo – Use a sulfate free/CG friendly shampoo to cleanse your hair rather than harsh shampoos which will strip your hair and scalp of the natural oils. Or do an ACV rinse monthly to clarify your hair. Click here to know how to clarify your hair.

❤ Protein treatment – If you have severe hair breakage, there could be a possibility that your hair will need protein treatments. Try doing homemade protein treatments like the Gelatine treatment and use products contain proteins like amino acids, Keratin, wheat protein, soy or rice proteins etc.

❤ Follow someone with your similar hair texture and type in social medias such as blogs, you tubes and instagram to get to know more about how to take care of your hair and tips to a healthy journey.

❤ Start a hair routine – Plan and keep a track of your hair routine including all of the above and make sure to be consistent with each one of them to be able to make your journey worthy. Here is my hair routine.
